RE: Pelican Press sold out of administration in pre-pack deal

I assume from the size of the VAT refund this 2nd hand press cost a few £100K's....... So as a Company Director why oh why do you decide to invest when you curently owe £100K odd in PAYE .........?? And fancy that HMRC wanting their dough. I'm hardly a fan of the taxman but well done on this occasion. And what set of accounts were Close Asset looking at ...............??

Look on the Pelican Website under "who we work for" no doubt some of these will have to look for a new supplier as ethics wont allow them to continue to use this outfit.

Shop floor worker, who are/were NGS Print Finishing Solutions?

Ian, NGS were / are a large print finisher who collapsed last year and are back trading as a pre pack. Seem to remember that they took their suppliers including other finsihers for a tidy sum. They allegedly took a hand finishing company for £80K.

Taken from Printweeks own 2011 review NGS Print Finishers went into administration owing £1.5m, with almost £700,000 owed to other finishing companies. Anyway enough about these back to the Pelican fiasco.

Despite all the valid protests above, deep down we all know that this Newco will be supplied by someone, enabling them to continue to trade at unsustainable prices. I have seen it happen too often in this game to believe that they will not get supplied somehow. Wouldn't surprise me if they get a mate in the trade to buy the stuff in on their behalf, and pay them the cash.

If anyone more local than us does discover if further supplies are being made please forward that information to me: Stuart Mason, Ink Shop Printing, 76 Grayshill Road, Westfield North, Cumbernauld G68 9HQ. Contact me through our Ink Shop web site www.inkshopprinting.com or through the Peanut Print brand, www.peanutprint.com. Can you send PM's through this site ?? I have to be brutally honest. Pre-Packs and Phoenix etc is now just the way it is, it's NOT just printing. It's not right, it's not the way it should be done. It's just the way IT IS. The problem is with the LAW, if the individual is allowed to exploit loopholes don't blame the individual - blame the system that allows it. What would you prefer to pay - one penny in the pound in tax or fifty - if the law allows it.... ??? The issue I have with this particular case is the WAY it's been done - it's absolutely rotten to the core and only through SENSIBLE printers and suppliers working together can this be prevented from continuing... so let's work together and sort THIS ONE.... we'll deal with the other ones later !!! They shouldn't have stuck the two fingers up just so obviously this time I think. I have already had one major supplier confirm to me they won't touch this with a bargepole - the others have been annoyingly silent. Just as a side issue and I know this has been debated before, comments and information carry far more credability if you put a company and name to it. Regards Stuart Mason Ink Shop Printing

I will hold my hands up and say billingham wonuldnt have been the company i thought and apologise... but a related subject even after going down there always seemed work to be coming through the doors, im thinking theres so many pre packs now that there is a second tier of business between these company`s which is never a good thing for the honest company`s out there

Hi Guys, I understand the anger but I note a couple of you are being supplied by Litho Supplies. Now correct me if i am wrong but i'm sure they went in to Admin and started again. Maybe we all need to be a bit more choosy who we deal with and that way we can rid the industry of the pre pack forever.

Lee, I beg to differ as regards Litho Supplies. Yes it went into administration and whilst started again with the same management team it had completely NEW owners / funders , it was also offered on the open market beforehand. The difference with this fiasco is EVERYTHING is the same except the registration number at the bottom of the letterheads... oh, and the debtor balance. The real question is why have printweek removed this from the main site ???????????
