    Comparison of International Printing Costs

    Hello All

Does anyone know the international price comparisons for printing promotional material such as leaflets, brochures, stationary(comp slips, letterheads, etc), etc.  For example, I presume China is the cheapest for obvious reasons but how much cheaper in comparison to the UK and how about other countries?

    Thanks.

    Hi Sam

China is indeed the cheapest but that will depend on volume in relation to shipping costs, I wouldn't consider going to China for general stationary though as volumes wouldn't be large enough. India is also cheap.

Rule of thumb around 50-60% cheaper depending on the product, sometimes more.

Central & Eastern Europe around 30-40% cheaper.

    Western mainland Europe 10-20%.

This is so variable depending on what products you need printing, volumes, where it need's to be distributed, currency fluctuation etc.
New and emerging EU member states have seen costs rising so there are many variables to take into account.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Gary

Thanks for the information.  Can I also ask you, out of the Central & Eastern European countries are there any which are particularly well known as a regional printing hubs where everyone goes to?

From what I know about international trade in general, I am partially put off China and India because of the shipping time involved although I suppose good planning should mean everything goes well.

On the other hand dealing with EU member countries should mean there is less red-tape when importing as well as the absence of potential import quotas and tariffs, even though the Euro is very strong at the moment.  But I do know that the UK do have individual agreements with non-EU countries which puts them in the same bracket as EU countries as far as import quotas and tariffs are concerned.  Although this is less of a concern than the price of the printing.

Does anyone know how printing is commissioned overseas?  For example, is an agent found who organises the printing and the transportation or do I go straight to the printer and they will organise everything.  If an agent is found are there any rules on the percent commission they charge?

    Thanks.
