On a couple of occasions recently I've heard that in-house print operations managers are having to spend more and more time and effort than they typically did in the past, tracking and reporting job volumes & costs, media & ink usage, who's ordering what etc. It seems this is particularly the case where large-format work is concerned, often where different printers, media and formats are being used. Is there a genuine trend here or has it always been this way? Is business reporting becoming more of an issue for in-plant print rooms as business pressure increase? If so, what tools are being used to facilitate this reporting? Off the shelf apps or home-grown packages? Do in-plants find easy or difficult to capture and track the data in the first place?
